Melonie Joy Mitchell Gordon

Melonie Joy Mitchell Gordon passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023, in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 68. She was born on Tuesday, July 12, 1955, in Independence, Louisiana, to the late Stanley and Cleo Gordon. Melonie was an educator, who began her teaching career in Lutcher, Louisiana. She taught for 33 years, and most of those years were spent in the Tangipahoa Parish School System. For several years, she coached girls’ athletics at Hammond Jr. High. Melonie was a loving mother and adoring grandmother. Her favorite pastime was spent watching her grandson play ball.

She is survived by her daughter, Leigh Mitchell Locascio and husband Nicholas, and grandson, Kaleb Mitchell.

Melonie was preceded in death by her parents.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond, on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, beginning at 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

A funeral service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel in Hammond, on Tuesday at 1:00 pm.

Entombment will follow at Greenlawn Mausoleum in Hammond, Louisiana.
