Mavis Anthony Rios, a native of the Loranger area, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond at the age of 91. She was born on May 29, 1926, in Hackley, Louisiana the daughter of the late Amos Anthony and the late Georgia Palmer Anthony.

After living in Texas for many years, Mavis returned to her native Louisiana where she was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary #47. Over the many years she was with the Auxiliary, she held different positions including Treasurer. Mavis was also the coordinator for donations, fundraisers, and other Auxiliary events for the Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson, Louisiana.

Mavis was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Jessie G. Rios; sister, Verna Mae Childers; and brother, C.L. "Buddy" Anthony.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandra A. McEntire and her husband Charles, and Janice Rios Corkern; grandchildren, Bethany McEntire, David McEntire, Jessica Rodriguez Rivero, Joshua A. Gonzales, Jamie Corkern Harper, and Jordyn Corkern Harwell; 7 great grandchildren with one on the way; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Monday, October 23, 2017. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm with service at 7:00 pm.
