Mary Schiro Dattalo

Mary Schiro Dattalo passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2020. Resident of Independence, La, she was born January 3, 1927. Mary lived much of her life in Chalmette, La where she raised her two children. Mary and her family relocated back to their hometown of Independence, La, following Hurricane Katrina. Mary cherished spending time with loved ones. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, playing cards, and taking trips to the casino with all of her friends. 

Daughter of the late Carlo and Virginia " Jennie Liuzza. Mary was a loving wife of 69 years to the late Paul Dattalo, and mother of the late Michael and Carlo Dattalo. 

She is survived by her sister, Grace Schiro Restivo, brother in laws,  Frank Restivo and Joe Gulino; daughter in law, Nancy Murphree Dattalo; grandchildren, Melissa Dattalo Blache (Chad Blache), Christina Dattalo Ragas (Chad Ragas), and M.C. Dattalo; great-grandchildren: Gage & Mia Randazzo, Molly, Chad, & Nora Blache, Grant & Lincoln Ragas, Madison, Makayla, Macy, Michael, and Natalynn Dattalo. 

Preceded in death are her brothers and sisters: Luke Schiro, Jake Schiro, Theodore Schiro, Tony Schiro, Lena Schiro Gennaro, Margaret Schiro Nuccio, & Phine Schiro Gulino.  

Mary’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude for the compassion and care they received from the entire staff at Heart of Hospice. The family would also like to thank Father Reuben for his blessing, and her sitters Gail and Reba for the companionship they provided. 

A Visitation for Mary will be held on Monday, July 20, 2020 from 8:30 am until 10:00 am at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond which then we will proceed to Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 620 3rd St. in Independence for an 11:00 am Mass Celebrating Mary’s Life. Interment will follow at Colonial Cemetery in Independence.
