Mary Yolanda Shaw

Mary Yolanda Shaw, longtime resident of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024, at the age of 91. She was born June 25, 1932, in Tishomingo, Mississippi, the daughter of the late William Earl Coker and Leora Grace Gortney Coker. Mary was a graduate of Liberty High School in Liberty, Mississippi. Upon graduation in 1952, she married her high school sweetheart Joe L. Shaw. With him she would live in marriage until his death in 2021. Mary was manager of the Dollar General in Ponchatoula for 20 years throughout the 1970s and 1980s. She and Joe were members of First Assembly of God in Ponchatoula, volunteered for the Food Bank, and participated in mission trips to Central America.

Mary is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Shaw (Charlotte) and Charles Shaw (Penny); grandchildren, Amanda Amaya-Shaw, Andrew Amaya-Shaw, and Alex Shaw; brothers, Jimmy Dale Coker (Peggy) and William Scotty Coker (Patricia Everly); and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Lamar Shaw, and siblings, Ollie Mae Blunt, Edna Earl Pennington, Johnnie Blount, Ruby Gilma McRae, Nelda Johnson, N.C. Coker, and Sandra Velazquez.

Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 100 W. Magnolia St., Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454 on Thursday, February 29, 2024 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A Funeral Service will begin on Thursday at 7:00 pm.

A Graveside Service will be held at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, 2153 Bethel Road, Liberty, Mississippi 39645 on Friday, March 1, 2024 at 10:00 am.
