Mary Z. "Sue" Scruggs

Mary Z. “Sue” Scruggs, 75, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at home surrounded by family.  She was born on October 25, 1948, in New Orleans.  She was a graduate of Warren Easton High School and was employed by Perrin & Carter Engineering for over 25 years. She spent her life residing in New Orleans and Metairie until moving to Tickfaw seven years ago.  

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Salvadore Zummo and Marie Ferro Zummo; brother, Terry Zummo; brothers-in-law, Vincent Baiamonte and James Melito; nieces, Vickie Baiamonte and Vita Baiamonte Loria; nephew, Paul Zummo; and her beloved dog, Alexis.

Mary is survived by her husband, John Scruggs, Sr.; her son, John Scruggs, Jr.; and one grandchild, Cole Noah Scruggs.  She is also survived by her four siblings; Virginia Baiamonte, Lawrence “Butch” Zummo (Marilyn), Sadie Genovese (Sal), and Sally Melito.  She will be missed dearly by numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Katrina Wade for her compassionate care over the last ten years and to the staff of St. Tammany Hospice.

Visitation will be on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 North Morrison Boulevard, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church, 14450 LA 442, Tickfaw.  Interment will take place at Colonial Cemetery in Tickfaw.

Following the interment, all are invited to Our Lady of Pompeii Church Hall for a celebration of Mary’s life.
