Mark Jules Fos, Sr.

Mark Jules Fos, Sr.

It is with great sadness that Mark Jules Fos, Sr. passed away at home on October 18, 2022, at the age of 62. Mark was the beloved husband to Cheryl Vitrano Fos of 42 years and proud father to Trisha Fos and Mark Fos, Jr. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Kathleen Vitrano, as well as many cousins and friends whom he considered his brothers. He is preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Seghers Fos, and father Walter Jules Fos.

Mark is a native of New Orleans and a 30-year resident of Slidell. He retired from East Jefferson Levee District in 2018.  Since his retirement, the Mark J. Fos Leadership Award was created and is given each year to an employee who displays loyalty, courage, and a team first approach. Mark was proud of his job and deeply cherished each friendship that was made.

Mark was a 1978 graduate of Brother Martin High School and attended University of New Orleans. Mark married the love of his life, Cheryl. They started their life together and enjoyed it to the fullest. They soon welcomed a baby girl, Trisha, who would always be by her dad’s side.  The three eventually ventured to the Northshore and settled into their home in Eden Isles. Their family expanded with the surprise entrance of a baby boy, Mark, Jr.  Big Mark could be seen cheering from the sidelines at all of Lil Mark’s sporting events. Slidell brought so many new and long-lasting friendships. Recently, Mark and Cheryl closed that chapter of their lives in Slidell to start a new chapter to be closer to family.

Mark was a man like no other.  He always seemed to leave a lasting impression on any one he crossed paths with. His outlook on life and determination to overcome obstacles made him a true Modern Day Warrior. Mark loved all genres of music and frequented concerts.   He also enjoyed watching old movies, collecting comic books, and he had a knack for remembering dates and details of past events.  Mark was a skilled cook and loved to make “big pots” of beans, chili, and anything that would make a mess of the kitchen. He could always be found in his LSU man cave garage drinking a cold beer and watching the Tigers, Saints, Pels, and the Stros with his dog buddies, Duke and Duchess.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held at the Tammany Yacht Club (1196 Harbor Drive, Slidell) on Saturday, November 19th from 1:00-4:00. All relatives and friends are invited to attend. Bring your appetite and wear your favorite team gear, as we gather to share memories and a cold beer.
