Marilyn Foley Schenck, affectionately known to her family as Mom, Grams, Grama, Gigi, and Sis, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at her home in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, at the age of 80. She was born on December 2, 1945, in New Haven, Connecticut, to the late Francis and Evelyn Kerr Foley. Before settling in Ponchatoula, Marilyn and her late husband, Bob, resided in Sunset Beach, North Carolina, where they were active members of Seaside United Methodist Church and formed many beautiful memories and friendships. One of Marilyn's favorite activities in North Carolina was walking the beach, monitoring sea turtle nests and hatchlings, and guiding them to the ocean after they hatched. She also volunteered at the Sunset Beach Planetarium.
Before moving to Sunset Beach, she and Bob retired to the White Mountains of New Hampshire, where they enjoyed hiking, snow skiing, and many other activities. Marilyn also spent many years volunteering at the Mount Washington Observatory.Together with her husband, she resided in and raised their two children in Clinton, Connecticut, where she also volunteered as an EMT with the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department.
Marilyn was preceded in death by the love of her life, Bob; her father and mother, Frank and Evelyn Foley; and her son-in-law, Darryl Freeman.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Tracey Freeman of Springfield, Louisiana; her son, Brian Schenck (Tracy) of Deep River, Connecticut; grandsons Justin (Kayla) Bryson, Brian (Melissa) Schenck, Chad (Hillary) Bryson, Sammy (Gillian) Schenck, and Matthew Schenck; granddaughter Allyson Schenck (Kevin); as well as her bonus grandchildren Tanner, Haley, Katie, Jon, Sofi, Michael, Cooper, Adam, Amy, Kevin, Karli, and Will; and 13 great-grandchildren.
