Maria Obrecht Colona

Maria O. Colona, peacefully passed away at the age of 85, on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Ruma, Yugoslavia where she survived the Holocaust.  Immigrated to the United States at only 20 years old to live with her older sister, Anna Schweighardt, in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.  She was a member of the Holy Ghost Catholic Church and was employed for many years in the cafeteria at Holy Ghost Catholic School.  Maria was a member of the Tangi Ceramic Club and loved to travel with her best friend, Josie Penzato, to ceramic shows where they would display their works of art.  She came from a big family and made her own big family that she truly adored and loved spending time with making lasting memories that they will cherish forever. 

She leaves behind her husband, Kenneth S. Colona; children, Gerald Colona and wife Alisa, Robert Colona and wife Arvina, Darryl Colona and wife Yvette, Cynthia Colona Schouest and husband Larry, Darren Colona and wife Susan; as well as 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Josef and Rosalia Obrecht; brothers, Tony Obrecht, Josef Obrecht, Mathias Obrecht, Michael Obrecht; sister, Anna Obrecht Schweighardt; granddaughter, Kristi Lynn Colona.

The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.
