Marguerite Elise Albin Clement

Marguerite Albin Clement was born on November 23, 1926 in Livingston Parish, Louisiana. She was the oldest of nine children of Audis and Antione Albin. She was 94 years old.
She was a graduate of Albany High School and Southeastern Louisiana College, from which she earned a teaching degree majoring in English in 1948.
She began her teaching career at Champ Cooper Junior High School where she taught for 13 years. She then taught at Hammond High School. While teaching at Hammond High School she earned her MED (Masters of Education) in 1970.
After her 33-year career with the Tangipahoa School System, she was employed as a supervising teacher with Southeaster Louisiana University. Later she worked as a teacher at Trafton Academy and Albany High School.
She was profoundly loved and adored by nearly every student who had the privilege of being in one of her classes. Wherever she traveled former students would approach her and tell her how much they enjoyed having her as their teacher.  She would respond” I remember where you sat’. And she usually did.
Marguerite was a founding member of creating Golden Graduates at SLU, an organization that celebrates their 50-year graduation anniversary. She became a member of Louisiana Retired Teachers’ Association, attending meeting and luncheons.
A kind and loving person she treated everyone equally. She loved people and loved life. She will be remembered for her generous spirit and unselfish service to others.  Marguerite was a sight to behold, always impeccably dressed and never a hair out of place.  She owned a clothing boutique, Carole’s Fashions, in Hammond for many years. Assisting customers with fashion advice gave her immense pleasure. While owning the dress shoppe, she became a member of the local chapter of American Business Women Association.
She had numerous friends and enjoyed many activities. She was a member of Grace Memorial Episcopal Church for 38 years and was active in many church functions. She initiated Grace Church involvement with Tangi Food Pantry. She also volunteered at North Oaks Hospital.
She and her husband, Carroll, spent many happy hours working in their yard. The yard was one of her happiest places.
