Mallika de Alwis

Mallika de Alwis, 65, of Hammond, LA, passed away on November 25, 2023.  She was born in the town of Pitipana North, Sri Lanka in 1958 to Capt. P.A. Pathirathna and Josephine Nona Pathirathna.  She worked as the secretary of the Department of Mathematics at University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, before immigrating to the United States in 1985.   Mallika graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1995 with a B.A. in Office Administration.  She was a very compassionate and dedicated wife, mother, and Buddhist.

Mallika was preceded in death by her father Capt. P.A. Pathirathna and mother Josephine Nona Pathirathna.  She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Dr. Tilak de Alwis, her two sons, Thimal de Alwis and Amal de Alwis, her three sisters, Gilda Ranasinghe, Doreen Senanayake, and Padmini Pathirathna, and her brother Chulan Pathirathna.  Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, November 29, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond, 2000 N Morrison Boulevard, Hammond, Louisiana 70401.
