Malcolm "Sonny" Marvin Cone, Jr., age 87, peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family at Landmark Nursing Home in Hammond on Friday, April 3, 2026. He was a proud veteran who served his country in the US Army Reserve for 8 years. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and crafting wooden works of art in his spare time. Sonny still enjoyed watching his sports on TV, especially rooting for the LSU Tigers Football, "Geaux Tigers!" He was a dedicated Christian and member of Calvary Christian Center where he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who spread the gospel to whoever would listen. His family was his world and loved spending time with them as much as he could. Paw Paw Sonny got to meet his newest great-granddaughter, Ms. Andie, before he passed, which became a precious memory the family will cherish forever.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Rosemary Cortez Cone; adoring daughter, Angela "Angie" Cone Foster (Joe); beautiful granddaughters, Brianna Balado (Brant) and Joanna Hoyt (Gator); precious great-grandchildren, Easton Paul Hoyt, Charlie Jo Balado, and Andie Rose Hoyt; as well as his step-sister, Peggy Berringer; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Ouida and Malcolm Cone, Sr.; step-mother, Helen Cone; and a step-brother, Scott Hemphill.
Family and friends are invited to attend Mr. Malcolm's Celebration of Life Service on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Ponchatoula Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the cemetery.
Bro. Brad Miller will be officiating the services.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Landmark Nursing Home and St. Catherine's Hospice for their excellent care shown to Malcolm and the family during their time of need.
