Mabel Hill Verneuil, 89 years old of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Landmark Nursing Center in Hammond. She was born on Wednesday, January 18, 1928, in Greenwell Springs, Louisiana to Ezra Scott and Aline Hoover Hill. Mabel enjoyed life and loved to sew, quilting and crocheting. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Mabel is survived by her sons, Andrew Rainey Verneuil, Stanley Verneuil and Gary Verneuil, her daughters, Hope Cormier, Judy Murry, Nancy Schliegelmeyer, and Shirley Anthony, 25 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren and her sister, Leatrice H. Pierce, also many nieces, nephews and close friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ezra Scott and Aline Hoover Hill, her husband, Andrew Joseph "Buddy" Verneuil, her daughter, Barbara Ragan, her grandson, Eric Wayne Anthony, her sisters, Emma Mounce, Myrtle Sanchez and Faye Cooper and her brothers, Earl, Mallie and Dewitt Hill.
A Visitation for Mabel will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula. A Funeral Service Celebrating Mabel's life will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 12:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Hammond.
