Louis Thomas "Ippy" Ippolito, of Tickfaw, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the age of 90. He was born on January 23, 1934, in Tickfaw, Louisiana, the son of the late Lawrence Ippolito and Angelina Santangelo Ippolito. Louis's family were strawberry farmers. He would tell stories about their mule "Jim" and how they were the first in the area to get a tractor during the WWII steel ration. Louis was a veteran in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He served primarily as a cook and would often speak about how he enjoyed the experience. Louis went to college and studied psychology and education. He received his Bachelor's degree from Southeastern in 1959 and had his Master's Plus 30 from LSU in 1967. He started working in education in Lutcher in 1968 but for most of his career he was a guidance counselor at Independence High School. Throughout his career he touched many lives. He was often remembered and asked about by former students, who all knew him as "Ippy".
Louis is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley Beyl Ippolito; children, Larry P. Ippolito, Wendy Ippolito Stafford and husband Stephen, and Boo Ippolito; granddaughters, Terri Lynn Ippolito, Dr. Michele Lydia Ann Stafford and husband Michael Bourg, Paige Stafford Chabreck and husband John, and Keira Robertson; great-grandchildren, Mason and Maddie Bourg; sister, Lena Ippolito Guercio and husband Antonio; sister-in-law, Rose Clark Ippolito; son-in-law, Sak Supatanasinkasem; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Louis was preceded in death by his daughters, Lydia Ann Ippolito and Terry Leah Ippolito, and brother, Bennie Ippolito.
Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 from 8:30 am until 10:30 am.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church, 14450 Hwy 442, Tickfaw, Louisiana 70466 on Wednesday at 11:00 am, with Fr. Michael Galea officiating.
Entombment will follow at Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Cemetery in Tickfaw, Louisiana.
