Louis Benjamin Husser

Pastor Louis Benjamin Husser went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 70. He was born on Thursday, August 5, 1954, in Amite, Louisiana, to the late Rev. Delos Eston Husser and the late Mary “Maggie” Cox Husser. He was a resident of Hammond and served faithfully for over 50 years in ministry as an Evangelist and Pastor. He was the Senior Pastor of Crossgate Church in Robert, LA, for over 33 years.

Louis is survived by his wife of 50 years, Charlotte Johnson Husser of Picayune, MS; his son, Ben Husser and wife Barbara of Hammond, LA; his daughter, Leah Danielle Ried and her husband Matt of central Iowa. “Papa Louie” dearly loved his grandchildren: Chelsea, Caleb, Brock, Noah, Bailey, Brooklyn, Katelyn, Jackson, and Harrison - as well as the hundreds of others he helped raise and mentor through ministry. He is also survived by his brothers, Rev. Sam Husser and wife Sue of Pearl River, LA, and Joe Husser of Pearl River, LA; his sister, Diane Lee and husband Elwin Doug, who serve as missionaries to the Philippines; and his nieces and nephews: Jarred, Micah, Colby, Kyle, Shalayne, Riley, Chris, Jeff, and Eric Langston, Jesse Johnson, and niece Jena Golden.

Pastor Louis was a tireless advocate for Christian moral and family values, both in Louisiana’s state legislature and at the nation’s capital in Washington, D.C., making many lifelong friends along the way. He earned an honorary doctorate degree, was a certified Christian counselor, and played a key role in establishing six cowboy churches across the country. He authored the book Forgiving Others and served in numerous disaster relief efforts - including as Chaplain to the Cajun Navy in 2016, when he joined their team in being honored at the White House by President Donald J. Trump.

In the early years of his ministry, Louis traveled America with his siblings and their families as a member of The Gospel Continentals, producing eight studio albums. He later served as both youth pastor and senior pastor in various churches before being called to Crossgate Church in Robert, LA, where he led hundreds to Christ - his greatest joy. He served as a spiritual father to many young men and women and was truly “a father to the fatherless” (Psalm 68:5).
