Lois Marie Redmond Ratcliff, 91, died Sunday, December 11, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 15, 1925, in Killian, daughter of the late Gladys and John Redmond, and beloved wife of 64 years to the late Odis Milton Ratcliff, Sr. She was a dedicated wife, involved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.

 

Surviving are her two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Gary Childers, and Judy and Barry White; seven grandchildren, Charles Abels III, DeEtte Abels, Darlene Ouber, Kathleen Abels, Kim Decota, Odis Ratcliff III, and Scarlett Smith; step-grandchild, Garrett Childers; nineteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

 

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Odis Milton Ratcliff, Sr.; adored son, Odis "Buddy" Ratcliff Jr.; brother, Clyde Redmond; sisters, Margie Sanchez and Norma Redmond; and step-grandson, Will Childers.

 

Family and friends will be received at Killian First Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, 10 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service, conducted by Rev. Dane Blankenship. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

 

Mrs. Ratcliff was a bookkeeper for R&K Creosote Co., an established cosmetologist, avid traveler, and community servant. She was the first woman to serve on the Livingston Parish Police Jury, and she diligently served Ward 10 for 4 consecutive terms. She was also a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 60 years. Mrs. Ratcliff will be remembered most for her love, wisdom, strength, sociable personality and flamboyant sense of style.
