With great sadness we announce that Linda Anne McVicker, age 72 of Hammond, Louisiana has died on Sunday, June 9, 2024.
She will be forever remembered by her loving husband Gary Scurlock, stepdaughters Kayla and Alexandra (Alex), granddaughter Alexandria (Lexie), step granddaughter, Kaitlin, loving siblings, Diane, Bob and Gloria, niece Kim, cousins Joan, Leslie, Suzi and many other cousins and friends she valued immensely. She is predeceased by her son Zachariah (Zach)and her parents Mary McVicker and Merle (Mac) McVicker.
Linda led a very rich life which took her from California where she was born to live in Idaho as a farm child and back to California during her adolescence. She lived most of her adult life in California.
Linda loved to have fun. Her smile and laughter were infectious. She loved jokes even the second time around! She was also very intelligent, and proved it many times with those who dared to challenge her to a game of Scrabble. She also loved a party. Her zest for life and friendships motivated her to use her cooking and food presentation talents to treat her guests to a memorable get-together. An accomplished soprano vocalist, Linda studied voice and sang in the Long Beach Unitarian Universalist Church choir for many years.
Even though wheelchair bound the past few years, she didn’t let her disability hold her back nor squelch her cheerful disposition. She was a strong advocate for social justice.
Two very high points in her life: First—Zach was born to her in 1973. He was a handful growing up. She loved him dearly. The saddest moment in her life was his sudden death in 2007. Zach left behind a small child, Lexie, Linda’s beloved granddaughter, now a young woman. A couple of years later, following Zach’s death she met Gary while playing avatars on “Second Life”, a virtual reality video game. The second high point—Gary became the love of her life. At age 60 she retired from a 30 plus year career as an accountant, joined Gary in marriage and moved to his home state of Louisiana.
She lived a vibrant and joyful life. She and Gary created a beautiful home life that supported both of their interests. Linda, a lifelong “bookworm” and creator of beauty, spent many hours reading, creating beautiful weavings, and tending gardens around their home.
Linda did not wish to have any services marking her passing. She loved flowers. If you wish to honor her, bring some beautiful flowers into your home or your awareness. Peace and beauty Linda loved.
