Leroy Jenkins

Leroy Jenkins, age 79, peacefully joined his wife in heaven on Saturday, January 27, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on February 16, 1944 in Bogalusa, Louisiana to the late Elars and Elizabeth Jenkins.  Leroy enjoyed hunting, fishing and making people laugh.  He has been in the fire service for over 20 years, earning a lifetime membership award from Hammond Rural Fire Department.  Leroy was known as a handyman, who could fix anything he got his hands on big or small, he could do it.  He'd often be found with his cup of coffee in one hand and his teeth in the other, trying to scare his grandkids.  Leroy loved spending his time with his family and friends, cutting up and having a good time, and is already deeply missed.  

He is survived by his sons, Bruce Jenkins (Chee), Gary Jenkins (Kelly), Kevin Jenkins (Michelle); daughters, Brenda Jenkins, Eva Ridgdell (Julius); grandkids, Bethanie (Bowen), Aaron (Virginia), Austin, Tyler (Malorie), Makayla, Desiree, Briella, Juliana, Theresa (Alan), Russell, Loretta, Danny, April, Tina, Kevin Jr, Samantha, Jena and Kayla; numerous great-grandkids; sister, Josie Husser (Clifton); brother, Dean Jenkins (Karen).

Leroy is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Helen Jenkins; son, Adam Jenkins; granddaughter, Latisha Ridgdell; parents, Elars and Elizabeth Jenkins; brothers, TJ Jenkins, Fredrick Jenkins, Wilford Jenkins, Milton Jenkins, Arnold Jenkins; sisters, Yvette Smith, Hilda Bea Anthony Lynn, and Elaine Anthony.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m.  Pastor Lloyd Blount will be officiating the services with burial to follow in Briar Patch Cemetery in Loranger, Louisiana.
