Lawrence Leroy Powell

Lawrence LeRoy Powell passed away on November 10, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was 87 years old.

He was a U.S. army veteran, and he taught vocational agriculture to generations of students at Ponchatoula High School.  For many years he taught Sunday school at Ponchatoula’s First United Methodist Church, and he brought comfort to many families as a volunteer with hospice. He enjoyed visiting with friends and taking them for rides on his golf cart.

Lawrence is survived by his loving wife, Beth Dubuc Powell; daughters, Rebecca Powell Lartigue and Karen Powell; sons-in-law, Jure Rozman and David Lartigue; and grandson, Adam A. Rozman.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Neal Powell and Mary Frances Dickerson Powell; his brothers, Jerome D. Powell, Perrin D. Powell, and Harlan R. Powell; and his daughter, Julie P. Rozman.

The family is grateful for the kindness and loving support of many caring friends and family members, especially his devoted nieces and nephews, neighbors who were like family, long-time army buddies, members of his church, and the Ponchatoula High School community.

Family and friends are invited to First United Methodist Church in Ponchatoula on Monday, November 14, 2022 for visitation from 9:00 a.m. until funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Ponchatoula Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Lawrence may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Ponchatoula <https://www.fumcponchatoula.org/giving/> (201 E. Pine St., Ponchatoula, LA 70454) or to the Methodist Childrens Home of Southeast Louisiana <https://lumcfs.org/donate/> (49242 Highway 445, Loranger, LA 70446).

Arrangements have been entrusted to Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home.
