Lavern F. "Tony" Mayo

LaVern Francis "Tony" Mayo, of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away at North Oaks Medical Center on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at the age of 86. He was born on Tuesday, February 23, 1937, in Granger, Iowa, the son of the late LaVern Martin Mayo and the late Adella Crnkovich Stewart.

Tony was a United States Air Force veteran having served during the Korean War and was a member of the Ponchatoula American Legion Post 47. He was a member of Calvary Christian Center and loved attending services and prayer meetings with his church family.  

LaVern is survived by his daughters, Michell M. Jarrett, Monica Bratton, son, John Mayo, step-daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Wade Liner, step-son and daughter-in-law, Lance and Crystal Vicknair, daughter-in-law, Terri Mayo, sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Bill Halfhill, grandchildren, Joshua Jarrett, Jordan Jarrett, Jennessa Jarrett, Nathanael Jarrett, Victorianna Jarrett, Jonathon Mayo, Robert Mayo, Joseph Mayo, Chelsi Johnson, Amanda Liner, Lawson Vicknair, and Kale Vicknair, numerous great-grandchildren,and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joanna and Tim Gideon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Stanga Mayo, son, Michael Mayo, and special friend and companion, Jane Coates.

Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am.

A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home chapel in Hammond, on Saturday at 11:00 am.

Interment will follow at Stanga Cemetery in Bedico, LA.
