Larry Davis "Dave" Townsend, Jr.

Larry Davis "Dave" Townsend Jr., of Hammond, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the age of 74. He was born on Monday, January 29, 1951, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the son of the late Larry Davis Townsend Sr. and Ora Elizabeth Keegan Townsend. Dave was an avid outdoorsman, a true cowboy in every sense of the word, and a devoted grandfather. He loved to share stories of his rodeo days with friends and tell the stories of his harvests. At the age of 42, Dave became disabled but that did not stop him from doing the things he loved. He started the South East Louisiana Buckmasters chapter and later formed Outdoorsmen Helping Others, a non-profit organization that allowed disabled children to experience the outdoors. He adored all five of his grandchildren and always wanted them to know how much “PawPaw D” loved them. 

Dave is survived by his daughter, Lacy Townsend Corrick (Jason); son, Austin Townsend (Brittany); step son, Lance Rowland, five grandchildren, Keegan Corrick, Colton Townsend, Kohen Corrick, Cali Townsend, and Carli Townsend; and a few very close cousins.

In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his cousin who was more like a brother, Lucien Branch, and his beloved aunt, Claudine Hart. 

Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am with a Funeral Service at 11:00 am.

Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Hammond, Louisiana.

Pallbearers will be Mac Atteberry, Sonny Costa, Tom Anderson, Chris Powers, Tommy Blanchard, and Jason Corrick. 

The family would like to thank his caregivers who were by his side and Modern Hospice.
