Kathleen Loretta Sheridan Cockrell

Kathleen Loretta Sheridan Cockrell, of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at home with her loving family by her side on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at the age of 78. She was born on August 20, 1948, in Bogalusa, Louisiana, the first of five children of the late Ottis Sheridan Sr. and Barbara Seal Sheridan. Kathleen will be remembered as a devoted wife of 60 years, a loving mother and grandmother, and a woman whose life was guided by a caring heart. Her main focus was being the best mother she could be, and that love shaped the lives of her children. Her compassion extended not only to her family, but also to the many stray animals she cared for. Kathleen will be missed and her memory will be cherished dearly by all who knew her.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Paula Sue Sheridan Lee, Patricia Sheridan Smith, and Betty Jean Harrison Lane.

Kathleen is survived by her husband and love of her life, Jackie Cockrell; daughter, Tonya Michelle Cockrell Handley (Nathan); son, Brandon Paul Cockrell (Kim); grandchildren, Dillon Paul Songy, Ethan Andrew Songy, Olivia Grace Songy, and Matt Sean Claunch; brother, Shelly O. Sheridan, Jr. (Robyn); and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

With the deepest appreciation, the family wishes to honor a very special family member, Nikeisha “Neecy” Foster. She has been a beloved part of the family for years, through thick and thin, and especially caring for Kathleen and tending to her every need with such love and dedication.

Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 100 W. Magnolia St., Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454 on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 from 9:00 am until the Funeral Service begins at 11:00 am.

Interment will follow at Sand Hill Cemetery in Ponchatoula, Louisiana.

Pallbearers will be Dillon Songy, Ethan Songy, Elijah Claunch, Gabriel Claunch, Brian Bernard, and Matt Claunch.
