He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph Jr., Myron, Eugene, Donnelly, and Meredith and his sisters Lillian Marx, Muriel Daughdrill, Beryl Seeling, Carol Schexnaildre, Elinor McKearan and Helen LaGarde. Those who were proud to call him Dad or Paw Paw are: Children: Jules Carey Lockhart, Jr. (Susan), Cathy Allen (Greg), and Janet Anderson (Fritz). Grandchildren: Jamie Lockhart (Brian Armstrong), Blair Lockhart (Bryan Sanson), Lauren Arteaga (Adam), Brett Allen (Katie), Caroline Westwood (Sheldon), Conrad Anderson II (Mary Catherine), and Fritz William Anderson III (Caley). Jules attended school in Metairie and graduated from Metairie High School. He went to night school at Tulane while working for Shell Oil Company. In January 1956 Elizabeth and Jules moved to Hammond for Jules to attend Southeastern. He began working for Billups Western Petroleum (later becoming Charter Marketing). Jules graduated from Southeastern with a degree in Business. While at Charter he was responsible for managing the computerization of the accounting functions in the early 1960's and eventually was promoted to Vice President and Controller.
In 1960, Jules began keeping books part time for Robert A. (Bob) Maurin, Jr. Mr. Maurin was a developer and home builder. After Charter closed the Hammond office, he began working for Bob Maurin full time. In 1986, George Solomon moved his operations into Mr. Maurin's offices and Jules began managing the accounting for Mr. Solomon's video stores, which grew to 67 stores throughout the south. Mr. Solomon sold the video stores and then bought 3 theaters and Jules continued to manage the accounting. Then later the 3 theaters were sold and he went back to work for the Maurin's full time.
In 2021 Robert (Bobby) Maurin III and James (Jimmy) Maurin established a scholarship fund at Southeastern in the name of Elizabeth and Jules Lockhart, which gives a scholarship to a deserving accounting student each year. Jules continued to do accounting work in Bobby Maurin's businesses until his recent illness. The Maurin family was always very important to Jules.
Jules felt very blessed to have found Elizabeth and to be able to spend most of his life with her. He had a deep love for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His priority was to always do everything he could for his family. Jules and Elizabeth set a great example of love and selflessness that will live on through their descendants and others who shared times with them.
