Joyce Penn Hoover

Joyce Penn Hoover, of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, known lovingly as "Mamma Joyce," passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, October 27, 2023, at the age of 86. She was born on October 3, 1937, in New Orleans, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Abraham Penn and Stella Aime Penn. Mamma Joyce was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She touched the lives of so many and spread sunshine everywhere she went. Mamma Joyce was always active in her children's lives and activities, she helped with her husband's Lions Club events, and she worked for the Daily Star for a number of years. She loved to travel with her husband and family going on many unforgettable vacations. Mamma Joyce leaves behind many cherished memories and she is missed so much already.

Mamma Joyce is survived by her daughter, Gwen Hoover (Stephen J.); twin daughter and son, Cindy H. Walters (Steve W.), and Doyle Hoover (Lisa); grandchildren, Nicholas Rushing, Randi Paige Norman, Savannah Walters, Shawn Walters, and Scott Walters; also numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mamma Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence "L.B." Hoover; siblings, Abraham "A.J." Penn, Joyce's twin, Betty Penn Prager, Henry M. Penn, and Shirley Penn Wall; nieces, Kristie Rinker and Judy Ardoin; and mother-in-law, Pearley Jones.

The family would like to thank the compassionate staff of Hospice Specialists of Louisiana for their loving care for Mamma Joyce, especially Regina Oxford, Phil Soileau, Desiree Alexander, Jennie Matar, Scarlett Locicero, and Jennifer Bell.

Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 100 W. Magnolia St., Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454 on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm. 

A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm, with Deacon Nat Garofalo officiating.

Interment will follow at Sand Hill Cemetery in Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
