Joyce Anita Benton Bigner

Joyce Anita Benton Bigner passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023.   She was born to Revis and Rita Benton on March 8, 1946 in Tickfaw, Louisiana.  Joyce was a graduate of Albany High School, and married the love of her life, Edgar Bigner on March 30, 1962. Together, they tirelessly ran a dairy farm and raised their precious daughter, Charlotte.  Along with running the farm, Joyce also was a telephone operator for South Central Bell, a substitute teacher at Natalbany Baptist Christian School, an admit clerk at Lallie Kemp Hospital, and a library clerk at Southeastern Louisiana University. She was also a member of Old Zion Hill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Revis Howell Benton; and her mother, Rita Mae Benton. She is survived by her husband, Hugh Edgar Bigner Jr.; her daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Johnnie Stewart. She has two grandsons, Daniel (Nicole) Stewart and Dustin (Tabatha) Stewart. She also has four great-grandchildren, Deborah Stewart, Ada Stewart, Chloe Grace Stewart, and Ezra Stewart. She also was blessed with numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and family.  Joyce loved spending time with her family and touched many lives with her love, intellect, and wit.

Visitation will be held at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home in Hammond, LA on Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Officiants are Rev. Randy Ray and Rev. Johnnie Stewart.  Graveside will be at Hutchinson Cemetery in Albany.
