John Louis Vicknair, III

John Louis Vicknair, III, known affectionately as Johnny, passed away on September 12, 2026. Born in Reserve, LA, to Marie (Hutchinson) and John L. Vicknair, II, Johnny has called Destrehan, Springfield, and most recently Hammond, his home.

Johnny was a graduate of Leon Godchaux High School. Throughout his career, he worked at Goodhope Refinery, served with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, and retired from Air Liquide. He also proudly served his community as a part-time police officer and alderman in Springfield.

Johnny was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed many hobbies and interests throughout his life. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and especially enjoyed being near the water. He had a talent for jewelry-making and enjoyed coin collecting, tending to the plants and wildlife around his home, and talking about-and enjoying-good food. He was a parishioner of Holy Ghost.

Johnny was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was immensely adored by his family and friends, who will remember him for his love, humor, stories, generosity, and the many ways he made their lives richer.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Janis Mondebello Vicknair; his children, John (Jessica) Vicknair, and granddaughter Emma; Mindy (Jamie) Wilson, and grandchildren Kai and Leilani; Joey (Stacey) Perrone, grandchildren Drake and Keri, and three great-grandchildren; and Jeffrey (Anne) Perrone, and grandchildren Kaylin and Grant. He is also survived by his siblings, Lisa, Deborah Ann, and John Paul.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and John Vicknair, and his sister, Robin.

Johnny will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on through the family he loved so dearly, the lives he touched, and the many stories and memories he leaves behind.

Visitation will be held at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 North Morrison Boulevard, Hammond, Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. until a eulogy at 10:20 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 600 North Oak Street, Hammond, at 11:00 a.m. celebrated Father Charlie Johnson. Entombment will follow in Rose Mausoleum, Hammond.
