John Terry âPopsâ Pettigrew was born April 23, 1941 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He went home to be with his Lord on November 2, 2016 at age 75. He was the only child of John Houston and Wanda Robertson Pettigrew of Hammond, La. Terry spent the last 15 years of his life in Navarre, Florida following almost 60 years in Hammond. Hammond was home.
He attended and graduated from Southeastern High School, and Southeastern Louisiana University, and served his country in the United States Army spending a year overseas in Seoul, South Korea. He was active in the Hammond Jaycees, SLU Athletic Booster Club, and sang in the choir at First Baptist Hammond. He loved coaching kids baseball and basketball, and was active in the youth programs in town for many years. Above all else, he loved his family. He could always be found in the stands watching, coaching, and supporting his kids and grandkids playing sports, or music - whatever their interest.
He is survived by three sons and their families: Lance and Katherine Pettigrew of Boerne, Texas; Darren and Tracy Pettigrew of Hammond, Louisiana; and Bryan Pettigrew of Navarre, Florida. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Tyler and Anna Pettigrew of Boerne, Texas; Jacob and Landon Pettigrew of Hammond,Louisiana; and Emily, Allison, and Bryan Pettigrew, Jr. of Navarre, Florida; Terry was preceded in death by his wife Darlene Stevens Pettigrew, and his parents John and Wanda Pettigrew.
Friends will be received Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 5:30 pm until 8:00 pm at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond.
On Monday we will dismiss from the funeral home at 9:45am for a 10:00am Graveside Service at Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Hammond, Louisiana.
