John Hubbard Overton M.D.

John Hubbard Overton M.D., of Hammond, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at the age of 87. He was born on Sunday, August 15, 1937, in Hammond, Louisiana.

Dr. Overton was a pediatrician for over fifty years, he loved and cared about his patients and his family. John was a graduate of Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville GA He graduated from Tulane University and from Tulane Medical School in New Orleans in 1962. He was a lover of all styles of music, particularly classical. He was a collector of historical recordings and vinyl records. John had a phenomenal memory, and a wonderful sense of humor. John enjoyed telling jokes and stories for hours. He very much enjoyed a good fire on the patio with family and friends. 

John is survived by his wife, Janelle Bouis Overton; daughters, Miriam C. Overton and her fiance Steve Covington, and Chloe Overton Butler (Mark); sons, John J. Overton (Wendy), Henry D.L. Overton (Monica) and Benjamin J. Blackwell; grandchildren, Isaac DeVlugt (Selina), Rachel Maebe (Lennart), Hannah Riddle, Grant Riddle (Mya), Elise Overton, Jake Overton, Elliana Overton, Lana Grace Overton, Annabeth Overton, Amelia Overton, Holton Hancock and Haigan Hancock; great-grandchildren, Jules, James, Wesley, Leo, Delton and Layla.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Annelise Kryger Overton; parents, Carroll Davis Overton M.D. and Mary Lewis Overton; brother, Morris Blackwell Overton (Marianne); sister, Helen Overton Brittan (John).

Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Sunday, September 29, 2024 from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm. Followed by a funeral service conducted by Rev. Andy Stafford.

Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Hammond, Louisiana.

Donations may be made in Dr. Overton's memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Alzheimer's Association.
