John Michael "Mike" Quarles, of Hammond, Louisiana, passed away at North Oaks Medical Center on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the age of 71. He was born on June 18, 1950, in Jonesboro, Louisiana, the son of the late John Ed and Max Pardue Quarles. Mike earned a bachelors and masters degree from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. He was Assistant Dean of Student Activities at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond and worked there for 19 years. Mike loved his family, playing guitar, watching sports on TV, and was an avid reader.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Janet Costa Quarles; step-children, Holly Bankston Gautier, Jimmy Bankston and Jason Bankston; step-grandchildren, Jenny, Aimee and T.J. (Gabrielle); step-great grandchildren, Haley, Andrew, Hunter, Ava, Adriana, Angelo III, and Addy; brother, David Quarles (Brenda); nephew, John Quarles; niece, Kasi Quarles Kendrick (Joel); great niece and nephews, Landry Quarles, Max Quarles and Seth Lowe; brother-in-law, Angelo J. âSonnyâ Costa, Jr. (Linda).
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Mary C. Costa, father-in-law, Angelo J. Costa, Sr., brother-in-law Raymond Costa, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
