John D. Costanza Jr., born October 19, 1944, in Independence, Louisiana, was a proud United States Marine and Vietnam Veteran, devoted father, grandfather, protector, and the steady backbone of his family.
A man of grit and discipline, John carried the strength and loyalty of the Marine Corps throughout his life. He worked hard, stood firm in his beliefs, and never backed down. Stubborn by nature but tender at heart, he was the kind of man who made you feel safe simply by knowing he was there.
He had a corny sense of humor and was never short on a smart remark. Beneath the jokes was a fierce protector. To his daughter Marion, he was Superman - the man who could handle anything. His love showed up in strength, in guidance, and in standing guard over the people he loved.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John Costanza Sr. and Bertha Costanza; his brother, Russell Costanza; and his son, John D. Costanza III.
He leaves behind his daughter, Marion Costanza Bell, and his beloved granddaughters, Bailey and Grace Bell. While he loved all of his grandchildren dearly, it was no secret that Grace held a particularly special place in his heart. The two were best friends, and he treasured every moment he could spend with her.
He also leaves behind Ron Peterman (Beth) and Angela Peterman, whom he lovingly raised as his own, along with grandchildren Christina Levatino and Victoria Peterman, and great-granddaughters Ashlyn and Jailyn Levatino and Malani Henderson. His brother Sam Costanza (Josephine)
John’s legacy is one of strength, loyalty, humor, and unwavering protection. The foundation he built through love and resilience will continue to stand in the lives of those he leaves behind.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 10:00 am at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Dr, Slidell, LA 70460
