John Loyd Cloer

Just after sunrise on 28 December 2025, John Loyd Cloer, TSAF, born Ackerman, Mississippi, February 9, 1934, went to meet his maker in heaven and parents, who preceded him there. He is the son of Cornelius Ducler Cloer, born July 1, 1892, in Kennedy, Alabama, died Searcy, Arkansas, July 3, 1982, and Sarah Verna Shackelford, born 1917 in Mississippi, died June 5, 1987, in Searcy, Arkansas.

Two half-brothers also preceded him in death: Carl Clinton Cloer, Sr., born October 1917, died August 2001, in Jackson, Mississippi, and Dayton Edison Cloer, born September 14, 1919, died on Christmas Day 1919. His sister, Julia Myrtle Cloer, born in October 1935, died in Jackson, Louisiana, in 1987.

John has one living sister, Mary Sue Cloer Creel, born July 4, 1943, in Columbus, Mississippi, who currently lives in Jackson, Mississippi.

John reared several children: Step-son Chucky with wife Clara; 3 daughters, Ruby Sue Cloer Griffin, aka Bunny, who expired September 6, 2018; Ramona Francine Cloer Klinman and Theresa Cloer Henson (partner, Kenny Clark), the latter two daughters are still living.

John married again late in life to Mary, who preceded him in death in 2015. He considered his life did not start as he called it "really living" until he married Mary at 50; they were married 30 enjoyable, traveling years together.

He reared a grandson of Mary's, and two of her grown daughters lived with them until their untimely deaths due to cancer.

John leaves behind 4 grandsons: Jack Lloyd Griffin of Houma, Louisiana; David Day and JR Day in Ohio, and John Mathew Hughes Jr. (Tammy) of Magnolia, MS. Great-grandkids, Olivia, Hayley, Cheyenne, Kenzie, Kaleah, Layla, Abigail, Hailey, Garrett, Gabriel, Christopher, and Tristian.

John led a colorful life including a 20 year long military career extending over a 3-year tour with the Marines beginning in 1953 with the Korean War; a stent with the US ARMY when he served at Cape Canaveral in Titusville, Florida, manning the computers that sent the Space Rocket Ship to the 1969 Moon Landing; he finished his 20 years military career with the USAF Reserves.

After his military career, he worked as a computer analyst with National Cash Register when just beginning to invent the way groceries & goods are today scanned & conveyed.

Additionally, when FedEx was a fairly new company, he manned the computers in Louisville, KY, that sent the flight patterns for mail & packages all across the nation.

John Loyd Cloer has lived a colorful and very meaningful life. One has here a mere unique thumbnail sketch, having held many other positions in life, from paper mill work in St. Francisville, LA, after the Marine Corps, to surveying roads to merchandising & window displays in later life.

Furthermore, John was an accomplished freehand artist. He could draw intricate pictures with every blade of grass & every bug, tiny ant & minuscule mosquito.

John Loyd Cloer was a universal man, a wonderful brother to his Lit'l Sis Sue, a benevolent soul to family & friends. He will be missed mightily by those who loved him and knew him best, especially Tesa.
