JoAnn LaMarca Genco passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 4, 2024, in Covington, Louisiana. JoAnn was born in New Orleans to the late Sam and Ann LaMarca. She was married to her beloved husband Sammy Genco for over 60 years, having two sons and a daughter. She spent 35 years as a teacher in Jefferson Parish and retired in Metairie, Louisiana. JoAnn loved being with her family, working in her garden, and watching old westerns on television with her husband Sam. She was an amazing daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, and most recently great grandmother to her namesake. Her wisdom, humor, smile and feisty nature are already deeply missed.
She leaves behind her son, Randy (Jeanne); daughter, GiGi (Kenny); grandchildren, Tess Hart (Reed), Ryan Genco, Samantha Troncoso, Alex Troncoso; great granddaughter, Georgia Jo.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Sammy Genco Sr.; son, Sammy Genco Jr.; sisters, Nancy Bellavia and Joyce Wehner; nephew, Richard Roussel; parents, Sam and Ann LaMarca.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond on May 9, 2024, from 8:30am until 9:30am. Funeral Mass will follow at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Independence at 10:00 am. Officiated by Fr. Reuben Dykes with entombment to follow in Colonial Cemetery Mausoleum.
