Ms Joan Moses Derrough passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at her home in Hammond, Louisiana. She was 92 years old.
Joan was born October 11, 1927, in DeRidder, Louisiana, the youngest of 11 children born to Barney Harry Moses and his wife, Ruth Austin Moses. Her grandparents were James Harry Moses and Octavia Simmons Moses, and John Isaiah Austin and Martha Shirley Austin. On October 04, 1947, she married Freddie Leslie Derrough Sr and they had 2 children, 2 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
In the early 1950âs, they moved to Hammond, where Joan spent her years being a mother, housewife, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed working outside in her yard; watching LSU football and Clint Eastwood movies; gardenias, hummingbirds, fishing, chocolate chip cookies, Root Beer and fixing big holiday meals; listening to Waylon and Willie; reading mysteries and true crime; talking with friends (she never met a stranger); going to Southwood Academy football games and spending as much time as possible with the light of her life - her great-granddaughter Brandi Newman.
In her later years, as dementia took away her love of being active, her memories and talking with friends and family, it became harder for her but she still enjoyed sitting on her back porch watching the birds. She fought a hard battle but never lost faith. Dementia/Alzheimerâs is a cruel disease and hopefully one day they will find a cure.
Joan is survived by her son, Freddie Leslie Derrough Jr, granddaughters Leslie Michele Derrough and Bridget Ann Derrough, and great-grandchildren Brandi Newman and Ruston Derrough; as well as many nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Squeaky.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, Linda Grace Derrough, her daughter-in-law Barbara Forbes Derrough, her parents and all ten of her brothers and sisters: Orville, John, Bill, Olinie Barney, Marie, Ralph, DeVaughn, Gladys, Edith and Ethel.
The family would like to thank the offices of Dr Nicholas Stevens, New Century Hospice, Vital Link Home Health and Camelot Community Care for all their loving care of Joan through her recent health battle.
A private graveside service will be held at Holly Gardens Cemetery, Hammond, Louisiana, where she will be buried beside her husband.
