Joan Fortenberry Owens

Joan Fortenberry Owens passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 5, 2017, at her residence, surrounded by her family, in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 82.  She was born on Tuesday, November 6, 1934, in Tylertown, Mississippi to the late Lela Elizabeth Sauls Fortenberry and Tillie Fortenberry.  

Joan is survived by her son, Ronald David Owens; daughter, Rebecca Ann Owens Oliphant and her husband, Eddie; and son, Ralph Bradley "Brad" Owens and his wife Summer; three sisters, Marilyn Stinson, Arleen Pigott, and Bonnie Grubbs; and two brothers, Louie Fortenberry and Billy Fortenberry.  Grandmother of Ryan Oliphant, Kailyn Oliphant, Trenten Oliphant, Kolten Oliphant, Braydon Owens, Brennan Owens, and Leah Benfield-Owens.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph Ronald "Don" Owens; and her parents Tillie and Lela Sauls Fortenberry.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service in the chapel of Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 1:00 pm.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 am and continue until the service time of 1:00 pm.

Interment will follow in Holly Gardens Cemetery, Hammond, Louisiana.
