Jennie "Joann" Monteleone Smith

Jennie "JoAnn" Monteleone Smith, of Hammond, Louisiana, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the age of 84. She was born on August 26, 1938, in Hammond, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Anthony Monteleone and Mary Castiglia Monteleone. JoAnn was a longtime member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and was retired from the Tangipahoa Parish School System. She was a loving mother and grandmother and she will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

JoAnn is survived by her children, Renee Smith, Jeffrey Smith (Debbie Bonaventure), and Suzonne Smith; daughter-in-law, Ninette Smith; grandchildren, Ethan Smith, Jeff Smith (Lauren), and Erin Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her son, Norman Smith; grandson, Matthew Smith; siblings, Carl Monteleone and Rose Richardson; and also Sonny Smith.

Family and friends will be received at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 600 North Oak Street, Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 from 9:00 am  until 11:00 am.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Ghost Catholic Church on Wednesday at 11:00 am, with Fr. Cayet Mangiaracina officiating.

Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Hammond, Louisiana.
