Jeanette Agnus Montalbano

It is with sadness that we announce that Jeannette Agnus Montalbano passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, in Tickfaw, Louisiana, at the age of 95. She was born on Sunday, December 30, 1928, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Lawrence N Polito and Veronika K Polito. She was a resident of Tickfaw, Louisiana.

Jeannette is survived by her only child, Mary Magdalene Vilardo; three grand children, Rhonda Renee Vilardo, Christin Vilardo and Danielle Vilardo; nine great-grand children, Lauren Ashley Mitchell, Alan Michael Mitchell, Emily Elizabeth Oller, Payge Victoria Oller, Wyatt Daniel Oller, Roman Matthew McGhee, Luke Aaron McGhee, Cara Sofia McGhee and Gianna Cate McGhee; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Polito and Veronika Polito; brothers Joseph Peter Tolito, John Anthony Tolito and Victor Frank Tolito; and former spouse Nicholas Joseph Montalbano.

Jeannette, or "Granny Net" as her great-grandchildren sometimes called her, enjoyed baking sessions with her family, which was a speciality from working in a bakery for many years. Her cakes, cookies and her incredible homemade icing were a hit with her grandchildren. Also, her homemade beef and vegetable soup were one of the family's favorite dishes. Once she retired, she spent countless hours playing board and card games with her grandchildren. She also would never shy away from innocent gossiping and discussing local news with whoever was interested in listening to her!

Granny Net was a force to be reckoned with—strong-willed, opinionated, and determined. She never hesitated to share her thoughts, whether you asked for them or not. Her resilience and courage were prevalent, and if you knew her, you knew you had met someone truly unforgettable. She was one-of-a-kind. She is a legend.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and countless stories that will be told for generations. Her family will forever cherish the moments they shared with her. Her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, and her personality will keep us smiling through the tears.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Jeannette's life on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 11am, at Colonial Cemetery in Independence, Louisiana for a grave-side service.

Rest in peace, Jeannette. Your love, laughter, and courage to be true to yourself while protecting your family will remain with us always, and you will be deeply missed.
