Jayne Stacey Welford

Jayne Stacey Welford, of Hammond, Louisiana, passed peacefully away at her home on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at the age of 84. She was born on September 21, 1936 the daughter of the late Otis and Iola Cooper Stacey, and the wife of the late Dr. Thomas Winfred Welford, the former Dean of Communications at Southeastern Louisiana University for over 35 years. Jayne was Marketing Director for the Hammond Square Mall for many years and loved her work. She was one of the founding members of the Junior Auxiliary of Hammond and very active in the Ginger Ford Habitat for Humanity. Jayne was a servant to her community and her church. As a gifted pianist, she loved the hymns of old and often shared her faith through music. She devoted her life to serving the Lord and caring for others, and she was a spiritual mentor to many. Jayne invested her own life to encourage and inspire others and she is dearly loved by all those she impacted. Jayne's nurturing spirit and countless acts of kindness will be remembered forever.

Jayne was like a mother and grandmother to Katie Hudson Seymour (David) and her children, Caroline Spiller Hudson, Anna Katharine Hudson, Samuel Carter Hudson, and Benjamin Warren Hudson, Jr. She is survived by her cousin, Travis McKenzie; brother-in-law, Joe Welford (Krista); sister-in-law, Nell Welford Snipes; and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

A special thank you to Jayne's friend and caregiver for the last 15 years, Chere Sutton for her love and companionship, and also to Jayne's longtime friend and caregiver, Debbie Holtgren.

In addition to her parents, Jayne was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Thomas Winfred Welford, son, Bradley Cooper Welford, and brother, Edward Lynn Stacey.

Family and friends will be received at First Presbyterian Church Hammond, 411 W. Charles St, Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. A Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 pm.

Interment will follow at Rose Memorial Park Cemetery in Hammond, Louisiana.

Pallbearers will be Timothy Bailey, Douglas Bailey, Marc Sutton, David Seymour, Ashton Sutton, and Warren Hudson.
