Jarvis Carter Carpenter, of Kentwood, Louisiana, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at the age of 80. He was born on Thursday, April 4, 1946, in Baptist, Louisiana, the son of the late Charles Joseph Carpenter and the late Mildred Agnes Burkhalter Carpenter.
Jarvis proudly served his country in the US Army. He loved being outdoors; it didn't matter if he was in the yard or in the woods, he felt right at home in nature.
If there was something to fix, Jarvis was your man, often tinkering with whatever was nearby, even if it didn’t need fixing.
Jarvis didn’t shy away from speaking his mind; if something needed saying, he said it plain and clear. Some might call him fussy, but folks who knew him well just knew he kept things honest. He was the kind of man who could tell a story to make you laugh till your sides hurt and always had a good joke up his sleeve to lighten the day.
Above all else, Jarvis was a family man. He was an adoring husband, a great dad, a loving grandfather, and a proud great-grandfather.
Jarvis is survived by his wife, Genelda Servio Carpenter; children, Jarvis E. Carpenter (Jamie), Alton Carpenter (Tabatha), Neal Carpenter (Melissa), Crystal Cunningham Butler (Tyren), and Jennifer Carpenter (Illey Harrell); grandchildren, Rita (Ethan), Summer (Joshua), Jaylee, Carter, Danielle, Ashleigh, Olivia, and TJ; great-grandson, Matteo; sister, Vesper Henson; and brother, Bo Carpenter.
In addition to his parents, Jarvis was preceded in death by his sisters, Opal White, Athelene Halton, and Guessner Starkey; brothers, Charles, Willard, Lavonne, Teddy, Hugh, Ishmael, and Fern; and sister-in-law, Shirley Carpenter.
Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home - Hammond, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 11:00 am until the funeral service begins at 1:00 pm.
Interment will follow at Amite Memorial Gardens in Amite, Louisiana.
