Janice Cook Laird

Janice Cook Laird, of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the age of 74. She was born on Monday, March 14, 1949, in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, to the late Allen Marshall Cook and Hazel Dugan Cook. 

Janice had more grace than anyone known. She never knew a stranger and was friendly with everyone she met. Janice loved spending time with her family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In her pastime, Janice enjoyed gardening and sewing. When she wasn’t in her garden or sewing, Janice went on trips with her “Ya-Yas”, which is what she and her friends called themselves.  Janice was a registered nurse for 36 years. She spent the first 6 years of her career working for the VA hospital, and the last 30 years were spent working at North Oaks Medical Center. Janice will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Stanley Laird; children, Micheal Laird and Allen Laird (Sandy); grandchildren, Jake and Jeb Laird, Rebecca Laird, Jada Laird, Carson Briggs-Laird, and Niki; great-grandchildren, Rhianna Alexander and Zayden Laird, and brother, Lester W. Cook.  

In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her daughters, Leslie Biester and Jennifer Renee Laird, and granddaughter, Amanda Biester. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula, 100 W Magnolia Street, Ponchatoula, Louisiana, 70454 on Saturday, February 24, 2024, beginning at 11:00 am until the funeral service begins at 1:00 pm.

Interment will follow at Ponchatoula Cemetery in Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
