James Lovell Stewart

James Lovell Stewart was born December 1, 1939, in Independence, LA to the late Rev. Sebron Stewart and the late Clora Johnson Stewart. He passed away July 22, 2024, at Ponchatoula Community Care Center at age 84. He was a retired manager for National Food Stores and also retired as the produce manager for Bohnings Food Store. James was a member of Serenity Baptist Church. James was a longtime resident of Tickfaw who enjoyed watching sports, especially LSU football and baseball. He enjoyed cutting grass and maintained the church grounds for many years. He loved fishing and feeding his fish in his pond at his home. He is survived by his sister, Faye Tate; and numerous nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his sisters, Rosemary Smith, Vivian Albin, and Hilda Nemith; and brothers, Hosey, Claudie, Norman, Elzey, Sebron (Bo), Carter, Valmon, and Davis Stewart as well as three additional infant brothers. Family and friends will be received on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Harry McKneely & Sons Funeral Home, 2000 North Morrison Boulevard, Hammond from 11:00 a.m. until funeral services at 1:00 p.m. conducted by his nephew, Rev. Dallas Stewart. Interment will follow in New Haven Baptist Church Cemetery with Lee Yarborough, Nathan Tate, Kyle Yarborough, Cody Stewart, James Gullotta and Mark Gullotta serving as pallbearers.
