James Earl "Jimmy" Schexnayder, III

James Earl "Jimmy" Schexnayder, III , of Loranger, Louisiana, passed away at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at the age of 52. He was born on August 3, 1970, in Hammond, Louisiana. Jimmy served in the fire service for 33 years. He was District Chief (C-140) of the Jefferson Parish Fire Department and in August, he would have reached his retirement. Jimmy also served with the Urban Search and Rescue and was a Louisiana Fire Training Academy instructor instructing young men and women in the fire service until he was diagnosed with cancer.  He was a fantastic fire service leader who always kept calm during emergencies. Jimmy loved God, to fish, tend to his land, drink plenty of coffee, and read his Bible. He was a Godly man and he always put God first in his life. Jimmy was an amazing father, husband, and friend and he always knew what to say at the right time. He touched countless lives and will be missed by many.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Charlotte Kyzar Schexnayder and their children, Dawson, Bayleigh, Chloe, and Luke; mother, Sheilah Louque Schexnayder; siblings, Sheilah Gondolfi and husband Charles, Connie Schexnayder, Brian Schexnayder, Babette Schexnayder, and Joy Schexnayder; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Kyzar; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Earl Schexnayder, Jr.  and father-in-law, Laverne Kyzar.

Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm. 

A Funeral Service will be held at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home - Hammond, on Wednesday at 12:00 pm, with Pastor Mike Foster and Pastor Jake Claunch officiating.

Interment will follow at Daddy's Place Cemetery in Hammond, Louisiana.

Pallbearers will be Dawson Schexnayder, Luke Schexnayder, Britt Johnson, Mike Nichols, Danny McCormick - Captain JPFD, and Chad Kuchler - Battalion Chief State Fire Marshal. Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Rosenbohm - Operator JPFD, Jake Scardino - Captain JPFD, Mike Rodrigue - Captain JPFD, and Brian Johnston - District Chief JPFD.
