James Otis Morgan passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2020, in Covington, Louisiana, at the age of 80. Â He was born on Sunday, April 23, 1939 in Kentwood, Louisiana to the late Bernice and Clarence Morgan. Â He was a resident of Amite, Louisiana.
James was a professor in the mathematics department of Southeastern Louisiana University for 33 years. He also flew a number of rescue missions with the Civil Air Patrol, and was a music director at many Baptist churches over the years. James was a private pilot, as well as a lover of model airplanes, which he flew often.
James is survived by his wife, Virgie Morgan; sons, Scott Morgan (Kay) and John Allen Morgan (Andrea); step-sons, Philip Morgan, Greg Morgan (Rhonda), and Paul Morgan (Sandy); sister, Clara King (Alvin); grandchildren, Jason Morgan (Madison), Matthew, Maya, and Miki Morgan, Kyle Morgan (Alanna), Kaley Knapp (Mike), Kelsie Graham (Caleb), and Zachary Morgan; four great-grandchildren; niece, Erin Miles (Casey); and great-nephew, Matthais.
In addition to his parents, James is also preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Morgan, and two grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond, 2000 N. Morrison Boulevard, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Â The visitation will continue the following day, Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at the funeral home, beginning at 9:00 AM until the funeral service begins at 11:00 AM.
Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Kentwood, Louisiana.
