James Allison "Jim" Mayfield III

James Allison "Jim" Mayfield III, resident of Hammond, Louisiana for over 10 years and former resident of Covington for over 30 years, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at the age of 78. He was born on January 19, 1945, in New Orleans, Louisiana, the son of the late James Allison Mayfield Jr. and Elizabeth Rebecca Biffle Mayfield. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a Vet Tech during the Vietnam War. He earned his bachelor's degree from LSU in 1965 and was named Who's Who in American Universities and Colleges. Jim was an avid golfer, he enjoyed playing bridge, and some of his favorite moments were when he coached his children in sports. Jim had a zest for life and he leaves behind countless treasured memories.

Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years, Angela Cefalu Mayfield; daughter, Elizabeth Rebecca Mayfield Blahut (David); son, James Allison "Jim" Mayfield IV; grandchildren, James Isaac Mayfield and Elle Marie Mayfield and their mother Angele DeLee; sisters, Mary Ann Mayfield Ballard, Danice Mayfield Price, and Geane Mayfield Roach; brother-in-law, Sal Cefalu (Harriet) of New York; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sisters, Grace Mayfield Morlino and Nancy Mayfield Walker.

Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Sunday, September 24, 2023 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. 

A Funeral Service will be held at Grace Memorial Episcopal Church, 100 West Church Street, Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Monday, September 25, 2023 at 10:30 am, with Rev. Mary Anne Heine officiating.

Interment will follow at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, Louisiana.
