James J. Laiche, age 73, peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at his home in Amite, Louisiana. He was born on March 1, 1951, in Lutcher, Louisiana, to the late Frank and Sophia Laiche. James was a character with a sense of humor, who was always joking around to get a laugh from anyone. He could easily be found enjoying an LSU game, or dancing with his wife to his favorite swamp pop music. Even though he was missing a few fingers and possibly a few screws, James was a talented handyman who could fix just about anything. He also loved fishing, being on the water, and camping with his family. His family was his passion and he loved spending time with them making memories they will cherish forever. His famous jambalaya from his cast iron pots as well as his crawfish boils will be sorely missed by the masses, as he loved seeing everyone together having a good time. James was an incredible man who loved everyone unconditionally and was willing to help anyone in need. He was a one-of-a-kind person who understood the importance of what family meant and left a legacy behind. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will live on through his memories, stories, and jokes.
He leaves behind his adoring wife of 43 years, Robin Owens Laiche; beautiful daughters, Rachel DeLeon (Mark Spitale) and Jamie Jackson (Amanda); precious grandchildren, Alexander DeLeon, Madison DeLeon, Blaise Luneau, John Pierre Verdin III, Brooksie Spitale, Sarah Bishop; siblings, Shirley Laiche, Raymond Laiche, Earl Laiche, and Edith Cortez; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and his siblings, Frank Laiche, Bruce Laiche, Gladys McCabe, Alice Clement and Margaret Hebert.
Family and friends are invited to attend his Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. until the Celebration of Life Service at 6:00 p.m.
