James "Jimmy" Ray Barbier, Jr.
James, age 64, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at his Ponchatoula residence, surrounded by his loving family. Â He was known for his kind heart, strong work ethic and his love for the simple things in life. Â Jimmy worked in construction and ship building for over 30 years, he even built the home they lived in. Â He had a knack for working with wood, steel or any material to make beautiful creations. Â Jimmy enjoyed cooking his famous spaghetti and meatballs and barbecuing on the grill. Â He had a special place in his heart for his doggies, Gumbo and Filet, who always stuck by his side and followed his every move. Â Jimmy was a wonderful husband, proud dad and grandpaw, who loved spending time with his family and is already deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Cheryl Lavigne Barbier; son, Jay R. Barbier III and his wife Natalee Young Barbier; grandchildren, Caleb Z. Barbier and Mary-Clare Barbier; as well as his sister, Susan B. Francois.
Preceding him in death are his parents, James and Norma Hymel Barbier; and his sisters, Linda Gail Barbier and Carol Ann Barbier.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at St. Albert Catholic Church in Hammond, on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. Â Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. with Father Michael O'Rourke to officiate Mass with burial to follow in Wetmore Cemetery in Ponchatoula.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Traditions Hospice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home.
