James "Jim" Martin Sappington, age 60 of Hammond,Louisiana, went to his eternal home on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center with his loving wife by his side. He was born on Friday, October 9, 1959, in Lancaster, California. Jim graduated from Warrensburg Senior High in 1978 and then graduated Missouri University of Science & Technology in 1983 with a bachelorâs degree in chemical engineering. Â Jim worked for Conoco, Kock, then Baker Hughes for the past 19 years. Â
Jim is survived by his wife, Janet Joubert Sappington, his children and (spouses), Krista (Kameron) Morris, Scott (Chloe) Sappington,Victoria (Nicolas) Kubicki and Matthew Sappington, his step children, Kristi(Donald) Martinez, Jana (Justin) Turchi and Josh (Arin) Robichaux, hisgrandchildren, Esther Morris, Avel Sappington, Noah Sappington, Matthew Martinez, Madelyn Martinez, Jordan Turchi, Cadence Robichaux and Kealan Robichaux, his brothers, Tom (Cynthia) Sappington and Scott (Mary) Sappington,his sister, Kerri (David) Sample, Aunt Alva (James) Cunningham, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law (spouses) and close friends. Â
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Hal Martin and Carol Wilson Sappington.
Jim was passionate for the Lord. Â He loved being with family and enjoyed reading, teaching and playing with his grandchildren. Jim was thankful for all the prayers; his pastor and friends were always there helping. He was also thankful for family (Josh, Kerri and Krista) that gave Jan a break during the 3-month hospital stay. Jim was loved, respected and will be greatly missed. He suffered from cancer for almost 4 years, but his exceptionally strong faith never wavered. Â Jim is now CANCER FREE,no more doctor visits, no more hospitals stays, no more painful treatments, no more waiting for test results, no more bad news, no more life restrictions,etc. A special thanks to all of you that prayed and helped throughout this battle.
A Visitation for Jim will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2019, family and close friends from 10:00 am until 11:00 am and public from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Eagle Heights Church 47318 Rufus Bankston Road, Tickfaw, La. A Funeral Service Celebrating Jimâs Life will immediately follow visitation at 1:00 pm in the church. Entombment will follow at Rosaryville Cemetery Mausoleum, 39003 Rosaryville Road, Ponchatoula, La.Â
