James "Jim" Davis

Jim (James) E. Davis, also known as "Di-Mond Jim" passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017 in Covington, Louisiana. A  former life long resident of Chula Vista, California before moving to Louisiana in 2005.  He was born on February 4, 1941 in  Bloomfield, Iowa to Lyle E. Davis and Mamie LaRue Garmon Davis, who predecease him.  He graduated in 1959 from Chula Vista High school in Chula Vista, California. He was known for his athletic ability as a member of the Football, Track, Cross Country and Golf teams.  He was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman. Fishing professionally and holding several local and world records in various species of fish and game with the San Diego County Fish and Game Association and the Western Bass Fishing Association.  He was a member of The Strokers Bass Club, where he also served as president. He was also active in the local dart league where he also held trophies awarded by the Southbay Darting Association. Besides outdoor sports, he was active in Baseball, Bowling, Golf, and Bird Hunting.  All who knew him,  I am sure will recall his many years of deer hunting in the southern Sierras and Utah.  Jim retired as a plumber in the Maintenance Department after 42 years of service from the Sweetwater Union High School District in Chula Vista, California.  He was also known  as" Di -mond ", for the nite club he co-owned with the same name, as well as the bar Lady Di both in Chula Vista, California. Jim retired in 2003 with over 20 years in the local bar business.

He is survived by his loving spouse Ginny Guillen Davis; Jesse James the cat; pet raccoons, Rocky and gang; brother, Gary Davis and wife Jan of Eugene, Oregon; two sons, Brett Davis and wife Sarah Morga Davis, and Mark Davis and wife Felicia Martinez Davis; Grandchildren, Yvonne Portillo, Ethan Davis, Makenna Davis and Madison Davis; his former spouse, Marion Aranda  Davis, all of Chula Vista and San Diego, California; his brother in laws Gary Guillen and Todd Cox of New Orleans; his mother in law Abigail Guillen of New Orleans; and a host of nephews and nieces in Louisiana and Oregon.

Services will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 312 Lafitte St, Mandeville, LA 70448. Visitation will begin at 10:00am with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 am.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held at a later date in San Diego, California where Jim will be laid to rest.
