James Pierce "JP" Harper

James Pierce (JP) Harper passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the age of 76. He was born on Wednesday, January 11, 1950 in Hammond, Louisiana to the late Erma Bailey Harper and the late Lescine Harper Sr. He was a resident of Loranger, Louisiana.

James is survived by his wife, Nell Harper; son, Jason (Haley) Harper; grandchildren, Blake & Dylan (Cayman) Rollins; siblings, Charlene Culbreath (Carroll), Lescine "Buck" Harper Jr. (Arwena), Terry Harper (Charlotte), and sister-in-law and special caregiver, Judy Crow (Gayland). He is also survived by his loving nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his father, Lescine Harper Sr; mother, Erma Bailey Harper, and sister, Maxine Harper.

James was happily married to his loving wife, Nell Harper for 56 years. He started working for the state in 1972, and retired in 2006 as a Health Inspector. From 2002 to current day, he helped start the mosquito district for Tangipahoa Parish and was still serving on board.James was also a member of the Livingston Masonic Lodge #160. James loved farming and tending to his cattle. He was always hunting or riding on his tractor working on his farm. James truly did love the outdoors, but above all, loved his family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at 2:30 pm.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2026, 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm.

Interment will follow in Narretto Cemetery, on 51119 Narretto Road, Loranger, Louisiana, 70446
