James Herman Chadwick passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at the age of 80. He was born September 11, 1944, in Hammond, Louisiana to the late Arvil and Josie Bennett Chadwick. He was a resident of Baton Rouge.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and retired from Exxon Chemical with numerous years of service. James told many remarkable stories of these years of service and of the friendships he made there too. Many of these friendships continued well after retirement- enjoying years of hunting, bowling, gardening, and reminiscing together. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to countless neighbors, friends, and family with any task you needed to accomplish. James was excellent at solving any mechanical problem and knew exactly how to fix it or tinkered with it until the problem was resolved. He loved gardening and always shared whatever crops harvested with you. He loved hunting, especially with his son Brian and grandson. His grandchildren, Myles and Cameron, were the “apples of his eye” and he absolutely loved keeping up with their lives. He was an excellent storyteller and an even better listener. If you had a tree that needed to be cut or trimmed, he had his chainsaw at the ready and could fearlessly climb a tree, even at close to 80 years young. It was a sight to see! James always put the needs of others before his own and lived a simple life as an example of Christ. All will cherish his kindness, selflessness, friendship, and love. He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed and forever loved.
James is survived by his two sons, Kevin Chadwick, Brian Chadwick and daughter-in-law, Jill; granddaughter, Cameron Chadwick, and grandson, Myles Chadwick, and his fiancée, Savannah Noble; sisters, JoAnn Walker and Rosemary “Rosie” Rosenberg; and a special friend, Cornelia “Cissy” McColas.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Judith Strode Chadwick; sister, Ellender Booth; and brother, Archie Chadwick.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 North Morrison Blvd., Hammond, Louisiana, 70401, on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, beginning at 12:00 p.m. until the funeral services begins at 2:00 p.m.
Interment will follow in Joiner Cemetery, Loranger, Louisiana.
Kevin, Brian, and Jill would like to thank The Hospice of Baton Rouge for their compassion, professionalism and ability to help them navigate his end-of-life care. Lastly, they thank everyone who knew and loved James for their prayers, hugs, calls, food, and care during this time.
