Jacqueline Aimee Cater, 45, of Hammond, passed on to her greater reward Sunday afternoon, March 5, 2017.

Born in Birmingham, Ala., she was a graduate of Albany High School and Southeastern Louisiana University and her professional career included working as the crime reporter for the Daily Star.

Survivors include her beloved daughter, Ava Love Lankford; her mother, Sylvia Ann Cater of Hammond; a sister, Christine Cater of Baltimore, Maryland; two brothers, William Cater and his wife, Ryl, of Hammond; and Neil Cater of Mobile, Alabama; three nephews, Mason, Ben and Lucas; a niece, Annabella; and close friends, Joe and Lil Mirando.

She was an avid reader and writer. She enjoyed having her morning coffee with her mom, shopping with her daughter, visiting her friends and walking her dogs, Tinkerbell and Lucky. Known for her off-the-wall sense of humor and her ability to bring out the best in everyone, she lived life to its fullest and always tried to make people laugh and smile in the same way she did.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 8, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, and will continue Thursday from 11 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Brenda Randol Reid, cousin of Ava, will conduct the service, and burial will be at Wilmer Baptist Church Cemetery.
