Henrietta S. Newman
Henrietta S. Newman, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, July 5th, 2023, at the age of 88. She was born to the late, James and Mildred Sullivan on December 19, 1934. Henrietta was a resident of Ponchatoula, where she raised her family with her late husband of 57 years, Albert “A.J.” Newman Jr. She worked for South Central Bell as a telephone operator, then home maker and room mother at SWA and returned to work when Cheri was in high school. She worked at First Guaranty Bank in data processing for many years until her retirement. She was known for her bubbly, full of life but feisty personality who was always out to get a laugh. Henrietta enjoyed watching the hummingbirds, cooking her famous lasagna and steak and gravy, and taking trips with her husband. Her passion in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to all who knew her and is already deeply missed.
She leaves behind her only daughter, Cheri Vining and husband Wally; loving grand twins, Kimberly Strayer and husband Michael, and Cole Vining and wife Ashley; beautiful great-grandchildren, Natalie Strayer, Waylon Vining and Malorie Strayer. Henrietta also leaves behind her siblings, Billie Joyce Accardo and Jimmy Sullivan and wife Mickie, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Albert “A.J.” Newman Jr.; siblings, Lewis Sullivan, Geneva Venuto, Anna Mae Hart, and Annie Laura Tompkins; and her parents, Mildred and James Sullivan.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Monday, July 10th, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Mike Callahan will officiate the services with burial to follow in Sandhill Cemetery next to her husband.
